Are there tolerances for natural stone edge profiles to be consistent looking?

QUESTION

I have a client that feels the Ogee edge profile is too bumpy and/or not consistent. I went to the fabrication location and found out the Ogee edge is done by hand/router rather than being milled on. The general question, is: Is there an industry standard/guideline for acceptable Ogee edge profile appearance?

ANSWER

ANSWER - The Marble Institute of America (MIA) Dimension Design Stone Manuel Version 8 says for bullnose or other rounded shaped profile edges that the allowable tolerance is no more variation than +/- 1/32 (+/- 0.8 mm) from the theoretical surface for stone that is not thicker than 1-1/4" (3 cm); or +/- 1/16" (+/- 1.5 mm) for stone thicker than 1-1/4" (3 cm).   That is on page 22-6 of the MIA manual in the Tolerance chapter.
