How to Clean Limestone and Grout in Shower?

QUESTION

How to Clean Limestone and Grout in Shower? - I currently rent a million dollar home built in 1996 with a walk in limestone shower. The grout has started to turn dark and moldy in between the limestone and the limestone is starting to change to a rusty color. Being that I am not the homeowner I do not have the luxury of experimenting to see what will work best. I have tried most of the popular non-abrasive cleaning products, and most HELP, but none actually restore the original look that it had 2 years ago when we moved in. What is safe & effective to clean both the grout AND the actual limestone? I have a walk-through scheduled next week and I need to have this this taken care of ASAP! Please help!!

ANSWER

ANSWER - First of all, if your grout joints have turned moldy and the limestone is turning a rusty color then those are symptoms that the shower floor was not installed correctly.  Water is probably being trapped under the stone, for a number of possible reasons, that is causing those conditions.  As far as cleaning goes, go to our website to the Resources column. Then go to one of the cleaner manufacturers like Miracle Sealants or Aqua Mix and see which products they recommend for cleaning the stone.  Be sure to avoid using an acid as it can cause other problems.  Good Luck.
