How to remove Grout Haze off tile?

QUESTION

How to remove Grout Haze off tile? I had Florida Tile Berkshire porcelain wood tile installed and it had a slight grout haze. In the dining room I scrubbed it with a nylon brush with a very diluted sulfamic acid in a gallon of water. It took alot of the shine off though. Is there something I can restore the shine with?

ANSWER

ANSWER - The general rule is to never use acid on a tile. Using sulfamic acid normally isn't a problem because it is so mild. If the porcelain tile was a polished porcelain tile, then it can be re-polished just as natural stone can be re-polished or restored. Go to a stone restoration company to have them repair the tiles. If the porcelain tile has a fired on glaze over it, and it was etched from the acid then it can't be repaired. Although I can't image that a sulfamic acid solution could have etched a glazed porcelain tile. If this is the wood looking porcelain tile then it is a glazed applied using the ink jet technology. I would call Florida Tile and ask them how acid sensitive is their glaze and ask for their opinion of your problem. Good Luck.
