Can I seal a Saltillo Terra Cotta tile with a Sealer that won't change its appearance?

QUESTION

I have a dilemma. I can't find a terra cotta tile that has a softer look. I love the way Satillo tile looks unsealed. Is there a sealer out there that wont turn it as dark? I appreciate your gracious reply. Thank you. L

ANSWER

ANSWER - There are sealers called penetrating sealers that seal the tile but doesn't change the appearance of the tile.

These is a product called Miracle 511 Impregnator Porous Plus meant for high absorbing tiles such as a Saltillo Mexican paver.

    Hello,

I have 3,000 sq feet of outside Saltillo tile that I am would like to reseal and would like to use Miracle
Seal 511 impregnator. I have power washed and removed a lot of the old Glaze N’ Seal Ole sealant but not all. Can I still use the 511 impregnator over the left over existing sealant? Thanks and would appreciate an answer.

First of all, you need to follow the data sheet directions for the Miracle 511 Impregnator product that you intend to use.

It should tell you that you need to remove all of the existing sealer. The 511 impregnator has to be able to absorb into the Saltillo tile to work as intended.

You need to read the Glaze N’ Seal data sheet on how to remove it. Typically sealers like this need to be removed with a sealer stripper in a careful way so the Saltillo tile is porous enough to receive the new sealer.

It is a bit of a messy process, but if you don’t follow the directions, then you may not get a satisfactory result.
