Why does my Tile have a Cloudy Appearance (Optical Haze)?

QUESTION

Why does my Tile have a Cloudy Appearance (Optical Haze)? Take a look at these 2 photos. There are circle shapes in the porcelain tiles that can only be seen in the early morning sunlight. Can you tell me what these are?

ANSWER

ANSWER - The photos aren't great, but I suspect it is a condition called "Optical Haze."   It looks like you have a polished porcelain tile.  During the polishing process at the factory there can be imperfections that are only noticeable when the light shines at certain angle and is not noticeable otherwise.  This condition cannot be felt with your hand.  Industry standards do warn that natural or artificial lighting can cause undesirable effects with ceramic tile.
So it just depends on the extent of the condition and the circumstances on whether or not the tile is the problem or that the customer is being overly sensitive due to the conditions of their use of the material.
