Cost to inspect Cracks in Limestone Tile?

QUESTION

Cracks in Limestone Tile - We are purchasing a house in which the sellers recently installed a new limestone floor. I have noticed that some of the tiles have hairline cracks running from one side to the other of the tile. I'd like to know how much it would cost to have someone inspect the floor.

ANSWER

ANSWER - Many types of limestone tile have veins that can appear to look like cracks, but are really natural veins of a different composition in the stone.

If it goes completely through one tile and through the grout joint on through other tiles it is a crack. If it is only within one tile it could be a crack or a vein. If it is a vein you should not feel any lippage separation as you rub your finger across unless the vein has deteriorated to some degree.

We do have an inspector in the greater Los Angeles area and we can perform an inspection to determine what that condition is and to further evaluate the floor to see if we see any signs of problems, but it may not be practical depending on your situation and considering the cost of our services.

As expert witnesses and forensic investigators we do charge for our time during the whole process. Depending on the extent of your problem, it may or may not be practical for you to employ our full forensic and quality control services.
