QUESTION
Stain Porcelain Tile - Hi. My wife and I are thinking of buying a house, but unfortunately do not really like the tile that is currently throughout the home. It is an off white/beige porcelain tile with a very matte, somewhat chaulky finish. My question is: Instead of the expense of replacing approx. 2000 sq.ft. or more of tile, can it be stained and sealed similar to the process used on concrete?ANSWER
ANSWER - The ceramic tile you described is either a glazed porcelain tile or an unglazed porcelain tile. Either way the surface of the tile is technically impervious with an absorption rate of less than 1/2 of 1 percent.Since the tile doesn't have absorption then you can not stain it. You can install new tile on top of it without removing it if done correctly. Good Luck!
