What do I do about the Missing Stair Nosing and Short Stair Tread?

QUESTION

Our house has porcelain ceramic tile throughout, including the stairs, where the former owner cut the bullnoses off. Without the bullnose the stairs are shorter than than normal (a bit shy of 9 inches deep). My question -- Is there a way to add a bullnose back on? And if so, what does this involve, and how well would it hold? We are of course concerned about safety.

ANSWER

ANSWER - There really isn't anything you can do about correcting the short stair treads as there is no stair nosing extending out over the edge of the stair riser.  You really just need to remove and replace the stair trend.
