How can I change the Color Appearance of my Slate? - I wonder if you can help me? We have had slate mosaic tiles installed in the new kitchen. They were sealed by the builder employed to do the house renovations. I chose the tiles to go with the kitchen scheme and they were a bluey-grey colour, with other hints of all colours. Now they look dark green and blacky with duller versions of the colours that once showed, and are wet looking. The sealer was LTP Mattstone Natural finish Impregnating Sealer. Is there anything I can do to counteract it's affects somewhat?

ANSWER - The final color of the slate can be affected by many things.  The kind of lighting will make a difference in terms of whether it is cool, warm or natural lighting.  The color of the adjacent materials can affect the appearance of the slate.  The color grout you use can dramatically affect the appearance of the slate.  The enhancer sealers, or the type of sealer you use, can make a big difference too.  There are sealer strippers that can be used to remove sealers, so if this is desirable check with the manufacturer of the sealer that you used.

Best thing to do is experiment with some uninstalled tiles and see what works best for you.
