Should I be concerned about the mildew with Travertine?

QUESTION

Mildew on Travertine - I am considering having Travertine Tile installed in my master bath. The tile I purchased was a Durango tile from Mexico and is beautiful except that it has some mildew growing on the boxes it was in and also on the backs of some of the tiles. It was pre-sealed. Should I be concerned about the mildew?

ANSWER

ANSWER - You can put some detergent in water and wash the stones with an appropriate bristle brush to remove the mildew. The stones can be installed damp, but not wet.

As long as you don't have a moisture problem in the substrate to which the travertine will be attached you shouldn't have a problem.

Good Luck!
