How do I clean off grout haze on pool glass tile and darken grout?

QUESTION

How do I clean off grout haze on pool glass tile and darken grout? Just had pool renovated--front of spa is beautiful dark gray iridescent textured glass tile. The installers failed to clean it properly after grouting, now there is a sandy haze in the crevices. Also, the grout is lighter than requested. When the tile is wet it looks beautiful and hides the dusty sandy pits. Can I use some type of sealer that will restore the shine and darken the grout? Any help GREATLY appreciated!! Thank you.

ANSWER

ANSWER - The grout haze might be able to be removed with a diluted vinegar (acidic) solution and a bristle brush.  You want to avoid corrosive or concentrated acids.  The haze might be a polymer or latex haze if it was in the grout and if so you might need to use a latex haze remover.  There is a product called Hydroment Remove that does that job.  Test your cleaning method out first before applying it to the whole area to make sure you are satisfied.
The grout was probably over washed and the pigment was pulled out that caused it to be lighter.  There are stone sealers called enhancers that will temporarily darken stone and grout finishes.  Test your sealer out first before applying it to the whole area to make sure you are satisfied.  Since the glass tile is impervious use a lint free cloth to immediately buff dry the surface after you have applied the sealer to the grout.  There are also grout colorants that match all of the grout colors and allow you to paint over the grout with an epoxy paint that also seals the joints.
