QUESTION

How can we remove rust makes from a ceramic tile deck.tiles are rust marked from outdoor blind fixings causing staining and rust residue. The tiles are 14 inch square with a non slip surface and are not sealed. Your advice would be much appreciated.

ANSWER - Depending on whether it is a glazed ceramic tile (has glass-like surface coating) or an unglazed (same material from top to bottom), you may have to approach it differently.

I would expect that with a non-acidic cleaner or detergent you should be able to scrub it off with a 3m type pad.  Some glazes are softer than others, so you have to be careful on what cleaner you use, how abrasive is the cleaning pad, and how hard you scrub.

If the tile is an unglazed tile, depending on how porous the tile is, you may need to use a poultice that does deep cleaning.
