Black Marks on Tile

QUESTION

Black Marks on Tile - I just installed a porcelain tile floor, river red 12x24, to be precise, but it looks so bad, it has white marks and also black marks. I am not sure if we did something wrong, we installed it, or if this is the final appearance of this type of tile any suggestions? Or can I go back to the manufacturers for warranty.

ANSWER

ANSWER - It is hard to understand what caused these white and black marks are on the tile based on your brief description. A porcelain tile is very durable and I would expect that any marks that would develop from the installation process should be able to be cleaned.

If you know what caused these stains then you can determine how to remove them. If your porcelain tile is an unglazed tile that doesn't scratch then you can try getting some silica sand mixed with water and a detergent creating a wet solution and then scrub with a bristle brush or scrub pad to see if that will remove the marks.

Always experiment first in an area out of the way to make sure it will work successfully. Stone restoration companies normally will also clean tile, so you can try to find a professional to help you determine how best to clean your floor.
