What are these Shadow Needle Shapes on my Porcelain tile?

QUESTION

My mat porcelain tile Carrara floor less than 2 years old developed smearing with ghost shadows gray needle shapes when looked at side angle. cannot be removed with steams or distilled water. Floor was not cleaned by any chemical

ANSWER

ANSWER - With your description it is hard to determine exactly what is the condition.

It could be intend fractures.  That is when there is excessive shrinkage and it causes intents in the tile that look like spider-web cracks.  You can't feel them and you only see them when the light is shinning on them and you are looking at an angle.  It is more common to occur in natural stone.  If that is it the only thing you can do is replace those tiles.

A porcelain tile is impervious so I would not think moisture has caused the condition.
