How to make tile more glossy and remove yellow stains in the grout?

QUESTION

How do I make my tile more glossy and remove the yellow stains in the grout? - My house has 45-by-45cm homogeneous tiles laid around the living room, and the cement laying around the tiles are light-colored (yellow). It was laid a long time ago, so now, there are stains on the homogeneous tiles, making it not as reflective as it was, duller, and the cement around the tiles (yellow) are now stained also with different shades of yellow (the yellow color of the cement must have worn out). Is there any way to make these homogenous tiles and the cement laid around it look like brand new? Thanks

ANSWER

ANSWER - I assume when you say homogeneous tiles they are unglazed through-body tiles.   Sounds like the concrete was stained yellow and that pigment from the cement is wearing off and contaminating the surface of the tiles.  The tiles and concrete can be cleaned thoroughly using appropriate cleaners and scrubbing devices. If the homogeneous tiles are a through-body porcelain tile they can be honed and polished like a natural stone.  The concrete can also be honed and polished.  So you might be able to deep clean and hone the tile and concrete that will bring back the natural look of the stone and open the pores of the concrete, so you can then restain the concrete and seal both the tile and concrete.  Find an experienced professional Stone restoration company to see if they can restore the two surfaces for you.  Make sure they do a sample area for you first to make sure you will be satisfied with the results.  Good Luck.
