Brazilian granite, marble and slate now arrive in the United States carrying an additional 37.5% in duties, the product of two separate Section 301 actions that took effect two days apart in late July.

Fabio Cruz, vice president of Centrorochas, the national association representing Brazil’s natural stone quarries, manufacturers and exporters, walked through the situation on a recent episode of the Stone World podcast, recorded Aug. 5. He said the cost increase does not stop at the Brazilian side of the transaction.
