Q1 2023 Ceramic Imports Declined 4.6% in Units YOY

New York, NY, May 9, 2023 – In the first three months of 2023, total U.S. imports of ceramic tile were 44.8 million square meters, according to Grosser Consulting, a 4.6% decline compared to the same period in 2022.

This decrease was mainly due to the large declines in imports from Spain (-28.4%) and Italy (-19.7%). Imports from Mexico were up 20.8% and from India, 40.2%.

For the first three months Mexico is in first place with 9.2 million square meters, followed by India (8.0 million square meters), Spain (7.5 million square meters), Italy (6.2 million square meters), Brazil (4.3 million square meters), and Turkey (3.7 million square meters).

Imports in dollars saw Italy in first place with $134.9 million, followed by Spain ($112.3 million), Mexico ($73.4 million), India ($37.4 million), Turkey ($33.4 million) and Brazil ($29.9 million).

Average F.O.B values per square meter were as follows: Italy ($21.62), Spain ($14.96), Mexico ($8.00), India ($4.66), Turkey ($9.05), Brazil ($6.97). The average for all countries was $10.68.
