Fuse Focuses on Future

Fuse Commercial Flooring Alliance held its 20th annual member conference here last week as the group reflected on its two-decade history with an eye toward the future.

Dubbed “Next Wave Fuse 20”, the event brought together its nearly 195 members and more than 60 vendor partners for networking, learning and problem solving. Indeed, there were 550 attendees at the event here.

Geoff Gordon, executive director at Fuse, said the network’s growth is due to the group’s relationships, strength of its supplier group and members’ commitment to the business.

“During COVID we had 85 members,” he said in an interview with FCW. “Today it’s 195. We added six [this month]. Word has gotten out; we are trying to help people, and we have the expertise between the Fuse management and our members to help others. We also have a lot of suppliers who will recommend [potential members].”

At the end of the day, Gordon said, Fuse has worked to give its members and suppliers all the tools to grow their businesses, whether that’s product training or networking. “We’ve done a good job of drilling into the organizations. A lot of our members bring four or five people (to the conference) — they don’t just bring the owners or the management.” And Fuse initiatives occur year-round, such as roundtables and learning opportunities. “The purpose is to get people involved in the business other than the owners.”

However, Gordon noted, members and suppliers embrace the annual conference. “We only do it once a year, but the collaboration that takes place is fantastic. These members, none of them are afraid to talk. They all interact. That’s what I love seeing. There’s a buzz in the room.”

Full coverage of the Fuse Alliance member conference will be in the March 23 issue of FCW.
