Ceramic Imports Rose to 17.9M Square Meters in May

New York, NY, July 12, 2022 – In the month of May, Italy jumped to first place in ceramic tile imports with 3.4 million square meters, followed by Spain 2.9 million square meters, Mexico 2.7 million square meters, India 2.46 million square meters, Turkey 2.4 million square meters and Brazil 1.8 million square meters, reports Grosser Consulting. Total imports for the month were 17.9 million square meters, the highest month so far for this year.

For the period January-May 2022, Spain is in first place with 16.1 million square meters, followed by Italy 13.7 million square meters, Mexico 13.0 million square meters, Turkey 9.96 million square meters, India 9.4 million square meters, and Brazil 8.35 million square meters. Dollar values were as follows: Italy, $259 million; Spain, $198 million; Mexico, $100 million; Turkey, $72 million; India, $55 million; and Brazil, $52 million.

For the period January-May, total imports in square meters were down by 4.4%. Italy was up by 7%, while Spain was down by 5.8%, Mexico was down by 11.8%, Turkey was down by 8.9%, India was down by 3.3%, and India was down by 3.3%. The unprecedented decline in Spanish imports may be attributed to large increases in the price of the products and of shipping costs.

Landed  values per square meter were as follows: Italy, $23.86; Spain, $18.03; Mexico, $8.13; Turkey, $9.26; India, $9.02; and Brazil, $8.59.
