Ceramic Imports Declined 10.2% YOY in First Ten Months of 2023

New York, NY, December 12, 2023 – In the first ten months of 2023, total U.S. imports of ceramic tile were 156.7 million square meter, a decline of 10.2% from the same period in 2022 when imports were 174.5 million square meters. This decrease was due to the declines in imports from Spain (-22.5%), Italy (-22.2%), Turkey (-37.5%), Brazil (-19.6%) and Mexico (-4.1%).

Imports from India were up 37.9%. The country keeps increasing its import market share; it is now 20% in quantity and 9.2% in dollars.

Imports in square meters were as follows: India is in first place with 31.2. million square meters, followed by Spain (27.4 million square meters), Mexico (26.7 million square meters), Italy (23.,2 million square meters), Brazil (14.9 million square meters) and Turkey (13.7 million square meters).

Imports in dollars were as follows: Italy is in first place with $493 million, followed by Spain ($409 million), Mexico ($231 million), India ($157 million), Turkey ($121 million) and Brazil ($104 million). Total dollar imports were down by 9.8% from $1.888 million to $1.704 million.

Average F.O.B values per square meter were as follows: Italy ($21.26), Spain ($14.91), Mexico ($8.64), India ($5.03), Turkey ($8.85) and Brazil ($6.93) The all-countries rate was $10.87.
