Mohawk’s Resilient Preferred Stocking Program
By Kirk Hamlet

Mohawk developed its resilient preferred stocking program to match the pace and scale in which builders operate. Projects frequently need to begin within four to six weeks of specification, and order volumes of 100,000 square feet or more are not uncommon. Standard inventory models are not built for that kind of demand, but the program was designed to be.

According to Derek Harner, senior manager of marketing, resilient, and Adam Ward, vice president of product management, resilient, the ethos driving the program is to have the right product, in sufficient quantity and positioned close enough to ship quickly anywhere in the country.

What The Program Includes

The preferred stocking program comprises 60 SKUs across seven product lines, 19 styles and the most in-demand colorways in each. The portfolio spans three of their most popular platforms — Looselay, Flex and Rigid Core — covering the primary construction types that builders specify across single-family and multifamily projects.

Said Erica Breazeale, vice president of marketing, resilient, product lines in the program include multiple tiers of Ultimate Flex — Essential, Select, Plus and Looselay — as well as SolidTech Essential, Select and Plus. The range is made to serve builders working across different price points and performance requirements. This way, they can source from a single program without compromising specification.

Inventory Positioned to Ship

Mohawk maintains elevated inventory levels for program SKUs across its regional distribution centers nationwide, ensuring proximity to job sites regardless of geography. The program is designed to support projects ranging from 50,000 square feet on the smaller end to 500,000 square feet and beyond.

Ward added that a pain point in the builder channel has been the gap between initial product availability and restock. Receiving the first order without issue, then encountering stock shortfalls two or five weeks later when the next phase of a project begins. The preferred stocking program addresses that directly, maintaining inventory across the life of a product, not just at the point of initial specification.

For builder and multifamily customers, the program’s practical value is in eliminating holdups and keeping projects moving. High stock levels, availability and a curated selection of the most popular styles and colors mean that floor stock is one less variable disrupting a construction schedule.
