How to even out discolored grout?

QUESTION

How to even out discolored grout? - SEVERAL YEARS AGO, MY UNSEALED FLAGSTONE PATIO NEEDED GROUT TO BE REPLACED IN SEVERAL AREAS. THE "NEWER" GROUT NEVER MATCHED THE OLD GROUT; AND IN FACT, IS DISTRACTEDLY OBVIOUS. IS STAINING THE ENTIRE FLAGSTONE PATIO AN OPTION, OR DO YOU HAVE ANY OTHER RECOMMENDATIONS?

ANSWER

Answer - There are grout colorants that you can buy for staining only the grout.  They are normally epoxy based paints and you have to carefully just paint the grout joints.

There are enhancer sealers that give the stone and grout more of a wet or darker look that sometimes can even out discoloration in the grouts.  You have to experiment to see what will work best for your situation.

If you go to our website under Resources in Expert Answers and then to Cleaners and Sealers there is a list of companies with links to their websites that sell these types of products.
