How to Keep Icy Tile from being Slippery - We have a ceramic tile outside porch/steps. In the summer it is great. In the winter it becomes a skating rink. What can we do??ANSWER
ANSWER - Tile can be slippery when wet or icy. There are floor warming systems that could have been installed with the tile so you could keep ice from forming. Depending on the construction of the porch, you might be able to install electrical warming under the porch between the floor joists.You should place slip resistant mats on the porch when icy or wet. You could put salt on the surface of the tile to keep ice from forming, but it might harm the tile, depending on the type of tile it is.

I live in W. V. Where there’s ice and snow what can I put on my porcelain tile and grout to melt the ice , I don’t want to Ruin it ? Thank you
People do use salt on their exterior tiles to help melt the ice or to help prevent ice from forming. The porcelain tile shouldn’t be affected by the salt. Although the salt water can absorb into the porous cementitious grout and then later lead to efflorescence staining. There can be collateral damage from the salt like getting into flower beds and causing damage to the plants.
It would be more safe to shovel off the excess ice and then use hot water to melt the ice. Once the tile is installed it is too late to install a deicing floor warming system unless it is a suspended deck and then you can possibly install a floor warming system under the deck between the floor joist.
